New QuiKeys Blog Launched . . .
Despite being possibly the WWB*, we're making an attempt at keeping you in the loop with all things QuiKeys on our new QuiKeys Blog.
Content will include tips, tricks, tutorials and workflow, and other info not available anywhere else. It's your one-stop info dump on where we're at and where we're headed.
I also hope QuiKeys users past, present and future, will take advantage of the comments section of this blog. From "What were you thinking!?" to "Can I marry you?" we promise to read every one. And who knows: your comment might just spark the next Big Idea that will benefit us all.
We're planning on adding new content regularly, so check in often and add us to your favorite reader to keep up on what's new with all things QuiKeys.

DQ Modeling in Washington?? (Washington, DC) . . .
When we were asked by our good friend and fantabulous photographer Jerry Ghionis to model at his Washington workshop, we just couldn't say no.
Boy were we glad we went. Not because we like being shot (actually ... we're waay more comfy beHIND the lens than in front of it), but meeting so many great people, learning from one of the industry's finest, and hanging with Jerry's better half, Georgie, made it such a worthwhile trip on so many levels.
Special thanks to good friend Greg Gibson for taking the time to meet up and especially for introducing us to our newest friend, Matt Mendelsohn. You guys are the best :)

DQ to Headline PPO's 2008 Convention (Toronto, ON) . . .
We're excited to have been asked to headline this year's Professional Photographers of Ontario Convention!
We'll be spending an entire day in Toronto sharing everything from our philosophy of wedding photography to demonstrating simply "guerrilla lighting techniques" to add drama to any locale. We'll also share our workflow from shoot to finished product with a behind the scenes look at what we're looking for at every stage of the game.

Giving Up . . .
Don't worry: we're not calling it quits :) It's our new blog that we're very excited to announce. It's where we'll be sharing things of a more personal matter and a place for us to display the images and experiences we took from Africa. It's just been posted today, and it's definitely a work in progress (I don't even know how to add a post! LOL), but we're glad we've finally got a home away from home.

Happy New Year Everyone! . . .
We'll entered the New Year by taking off on a little globetrotting for the month of January. If you want to find us, we welcome you to come for a drink as we show off DQ QuiKeys at the DWF Convention in Tampa, Florida. If you're *really* brave, join us for some Tuareg tea in Niger, Africa where we will be until mid-February.

the Niger Connection (North Africa) . . .
This is a note of a more personal nature, so feel free to read on or pass ... it's up to you :)
Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world, ranking last on the United Nations Development Fund index of human development. Drought cycles and desertification make it one of the harshest places to not make a living, but to merely survive.
Why are we talking about a place a world away? Because we'll be heading there for 2 weeks this January.
We'll be traveling with a team into remote villages to deliver a birthing bed and distribute and teach about the use of much needed mosquito nets (malaria, often caught through the common mosquito bite, claims the lives of many every year).
But we're also connected to Niger on a very personal level: my brother, Dr. Ace Cheung, is a medical missionary who lives there with his young family. Having committed themselves to helping the people of Niger physically, mentally and spiritually in any way they can, we're honored to be part of their efforts.

Well, it's that time of year again, and we're madly working on the many weddings we're so glad to have had the opportunity to witness. Shooting them is the easy part; it's the 100 hours AFTER the wedding day that we pour into them that leads to lots of cappuccinos and sleepless nights.

Web Server woes and the beginning of life . . .
If you've been waiting for updates to our news page for the past several months, you've probably thought we dropped off the face of the earth. Not so! We were on the unfortunate receiving end of countless hackers who crippled our website, e-commerce system and online galleries. Our apologies for the lack of updates.
Good news: we've *just* moved to a new server, and have ported over all our galleries to a new online system (Thanks Troy!). We're still in the late stages of transition, so if you see anything funky on our website, please email us and we'll try to get it fixed asap.

It was very cool finding out the rule of 6 degrees of separation should only be 2 for asians like us as you and your crew know so many of our friends! You're right: we're probably related somehow ;)

YAY Thirst Relief! . . .
I'm happy to report that at yesterday's closing of the Thirst Relief Mentor Auction, over $24,000 was raised to save lives. WOOHOO!
Here's a note from the President of Thirst Relief International:
"Dear Friends,
I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that all of you have shown for Thirst Relief International. It is truly a blessing and I am in awe of the fact that over $24,000 was raised to help provide people with much needed clean drinking water. Thank you to everyone that placed bids... Thirst Relief Mentoring Sessions Auction (for photographers) . . .
ATTENTION Photographers attending WPPI: Wanna own us for 90 minutes and pick our brain? Now's your chance to have one-on-one time with us where we can spend time reviewing your portfolio, answering questions, and being a specific resource to you in growing your business.
Thirst Relief International is organizing their 2nd Annual WPPI Thirst Benefit Mentor Auction to help save lives by bringing clean drinking water to people around the world who are dying of thirst.
We're honored to be on the list with some of the world's best photographers, but even MORE excited to be able to support such a great cause.
The mentoring sessions will be auctioned off online to the highest bidder. 100% of the money raised from the auction will go directly to bringing clean drinking water to families in countries where there is a need.

DQ Image featured in Europe's Professional Imagemaker Magazine . . .
In an article expounding the many benefits of the Digital Wedding Forum, the above image was chosen to illustrate one of the most popular weekly draws of this professional online community: the "Favorites" thread. What's that? It's where photographers the world over share their favorite image from their most recent wedding. As you can imagine, there is an amazing body of work displayed and the Favorites thread has become a catalyst for us all to elevate our craft. Amy & Warren's Wedding featured on Gary Fong's Blog . . .

Spring Cleaning eBay stuff . . .
Freshly listed a couple of items on eBay for sale. There's a Quantum Turbo Compact battery pack for faster shoe-mount flash recycle times and a Neat Receipts software/scanner package which is great for keeping track of expenses. Both in mint condition in original boxes (I'm a neat freak and pack-rat ;)). Thanks for looking!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
It's a Christmas of many firsts for us: first time alone as a family to celebrate with our boyz ... first time celebrating in our new hometown of Calgary ... first time with so much of our extended family spread around the world from Vancouver to Africa ... We miss you!

Growing Pains and Email Woes . . .
With the growth of our business, we made a huge move to a new server to increase our capacity to host our growing online galleries. With over ten times the storage and a more robust backup system, we were all set to better service our clients.
One snag: our email was improperly configured for the past month!
