We first met Erik & Jess McRitchie at RockPointe Church. They are the leaders of our kids ministry and their love and giftedness for the youth and teens of today is immeasurable. We are incredibly blessed to know people with such love and passion, blessed to call them friends. If the name sounds familiar, you may recognize Erik from his surreal landscape photography work.
Erik & Jess have graciously offered to share their story here. A story of unexplained infertility, God’s abundant grace and answer to prayer. Take a moment to read it, I promise your heart will be changed forever.
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
This is Sawyer Samuel McRitchie; he is a longing fulfilled and an answer to many, many prayers. He has brought new life and such a ridiculous amount of joy and thankfulness into our lives. He was worth the wait.
After 5 amazing years of being married, Erik and I decided to start a family. We didn’t know at the time that the next 5 years we would struggle through unexplained infertility. Basically the medical people didn’t know why we had issues, we just did. Oh how incredibly frustrating this was. There were nights were we would cry out, literally fill-your-pillow with tears crying, with the raw pain and grief of yet another month or year of disappointment. This was an unbelievable challenge to our faith, and it was also clear this deep desire was not just going to go away. Try to ignore a broken heart. It’s just not possible.
Finally, after the long, agonizing wait we got pregnant! We had no idea that we were waiting for you Sawyer. We hold you in our arms and you have taken away our heart-sickness! You fill us with gratitude to a God who loves to give good gifts—AMAZING gifts, and who will even use those times of pain for our good—to deepen character and faith. Sawyer Samuel, you were worth the wait.
