Anita & Garry lived together as common-law partners for 8 years . They joked that the day they get married would be the day they would finally be un-common-law. It’s an entirely fitting description for this couple whose love and dynamic charisma would be described as anything but common.
Their wedding day was truly a reflection of themselves, infused with all the unique quirks and loves and passions that comprise each of Anita & Garry, apart and together. Anita is Aborginal Metis in heritage and aptly incorporated the smudging ceremony involving dried sage and sweet grass burned in a sea shell where the smoke cleanses and purifies. The minister at Knox United Church had the entire congregation in stitches when he quipped a comment about smoking grass in his church. Garry, a welder by trade, loves the opera and moonlights as a choir conductor. It was special for us to witness him conduct everyone in the congregation in a hymn that sent them off as a married couple.
Their cocktail reception at the Hyatt Regency maintained the perfect balance of easy going elegance fuelled by a constant stream of delectable treats by Catch Restaurant & Oyster Bar. The dance floor was constantly flooded but for one song which had everyone cheering from the side as bride versed groom in an unforgettable lip sync battle.
The night shooting along Stephen Ave was a rare treat for us, since it isn’t often a couple requests to steal away from the party to take photos. I couldn’t imagine a better way to cap off a perfect day with these memories amongst the lights and car honks and strangers coming up to hug Anita & Garry and wish them well on the best day of their lives.
