This is the first in a series of upcoming blog posts that will tell the story of Madhu & Amit’s crazy-beautiful-dream-come-true wedding at the le Meridien resort in Cancun, Mexico. Typically, our experience with destination weddings are a small intimate affair of 20-30 people. Not so for Madhu & Amit. Over 250 people flew from all over the world to join them in a 4 day celebration of food, ritual and dance on the beaches of Mexico. The fact that so many people made the effort to cross 1 or 2 continents for them tells you just how LOVED they are. Madhu & Amit are the real deal.
The Mendhi ceremony kicked things off with a sensory feast of color, texture, food and music. It was told to me that the families transported FOURTEEN suitcases full of Indian textiles, pillows, and decoration from Dubai and India. They transformed a plain old conference room into a space that felt nothing short of exotic, mysterious, sexy. I still don’t fully understand the full meaning of the events that passed that night, but it consisted of mendhi art, a singing competition between the two families, and dancing till the wee hours of the morning. If there is one thing that runs in the blood of every east indian person I’ve ever met, it’s that they love to dance!
